Learn what makes the Yeye figure special, how to decide if it fits your collection, and key buying tips for this socially conscious designer toy.
Quick answer
The Munky King x YARMS Yeye figure is a meaningful, limited-edition designer toy that honors Asian American heritage. It's best for collectors who value social commentary and story-driven art over sheer playability or low price.
Why the Yeye figure stands out
The Yeye figure is the second piece in YARMS' Truth to Power line, following The Messenger tribute to Colin Kaepernick. It was inspired by the Asian American victims of hate crimes and modeled after the founder's grandfather, who lived peacefully in San Francisco's Tenderloin district. This gives the figure a deep narrative that goes beyond typical vinyl toys.
Because of its limited release and cultural significance, the Yeye figure holds value for collectors who appreciate art that makes a statement. The retail price of USD 65.12 (compared to a catalog price of USD 88.00) represents a discount that may not last once stock runs low.
Trade-offs to consider
The figure's design is detailed and fragile-looking, so it's not ideal for rough handling or outdoor display. It comes in a standard vinyl format with no articulated joints, meaning it's a static display piece rather than an action figure.
Availability is limited, so if you're on the fence, waiting may mean paying a premium on the secondary market. The price is moderate for a designer toy, but there are cheaper blind-box alternatives if budget is a primary concern.
Decision rules for buying the Yeye figure
- Check your motivation: If you collect for narrative and cultural meaning, this figure is a strong addition. If you only want a generic toy or a low-cost blind-box surprise, look elsewhere.
- Assess display conditions: The figure is best displayed indoors, away from direct sunlight and humidity. It's a static vinyl piece, so avoid placing it where it might be knocked over frequently. Consider a glass display case or a shelf with a dust cover to preserve its paint and details.
- Act quickly on price: The current price of USD 65.12 is below the catalog comparison of USD 88.00. Once the initial run sells out, aftermarket prices may rise significantly. If you're interested, buy now rather than waiting for a deeper discount that may not come.
- Verify authenticity: Only purchase from authorized retailers like 3DRetro or directly from Munky King to avoid counterfeits. The figure's limited run makes it a target for knockoffs. Check the packaging for official YARMS and Munky King branding before buying secondhand.
